Hosting User Freedom

How strange it is that user-subjugating corporations are able to organize and own the Physical Sources of our needs while those who seek Freedom continue to fail.

Not only are they able to cover operational costs, but they collect even far more and celebrate that overcharge 'earnings'.

And yet we, the seekers of Freedom cannot even figure out how to cover costs alone!

Why are we such failures?

Will we never discover how to host User Freedom?

As a test case, couldn't the FSF start a 'regular' (centralized) email server farm to compete with Gmail? They could display ads to cover cost, just as Gooogle does.

What would need to be different for such an arrangement to *incrementally* move toward Freedom?

Must we do all of our computing in solitary confinement, or is it possible to Share Hardware in a way that preserves the Freedom of the Users of that hardware?
