Robert Fischer first programmed a computer in 1980, and he first set foot on stage before that; he has been deeply involved in information technology and performing arts ever since. Mr. Fischer developed commercial software products as a teenager, and later attended Yale University, majoring in Computer Science and Geophysics. In 2003, he finished a PhD in Computer Science at Harvard University, and continues active research in the area of software engineering.

Mr. Fischer has worked in the hedge fund industry since 1999, playing a variety of roles in the research, development and execution of software-driven quantitative trading strategies. In that capacity, he has developed numerous custom database applications as well.

Mr. Fischer has been involved with José Mateo Ballet Theatre since 2000. In that time, he has played a variety of roles, both paid and volunteer, with the organization: student, company dancer, faculty, IT director. He has served on the board since 2006. Mr. Fischer has also worked with other choreographers, including a presentation of his own choreography in New York City in 2007.

Mr. Fischer deeply believes in values of artistic freedom and self determination. He believes that OffstageArts will enhance these values within the performing arts community, and that it will help promote and enhance our cultural treasures for the next generation.

Mr. Fischer lives in Roxbury, MA with his wife, child and dog; his wife is an ordained minister. In his free time, Mr. Fischer spends time with his family, manages the ballet's IT needs, and manages the continued development of OffstageArts.
